Timber Frame houses, in their many variations from Stick Build/Open
Panel to Structurally Insulated Panels (SIPs) to Green Oak etc., are
becoming increasingly more popular for an assortment of reasons.
Not only in assisting the developers and Government in moving towards
their goals for sustainability, and more recently zero carbon, but also in
assisting the home owner to achieve higher standards of energy efficiency
thus saving on heating bills and reducing their carbon footprint.
With appropriate insulation and sealing, wooden houses can become
true wonders of energy saving, which easily exceed the current and
proposed changes in the UK Building Regulations, as well as the new
German EnEV energy regulations and other European initiatives.
In order to achieve reliable sealing of the building frame and connections
to the outer shell, wooden houses require special sealing of the joints.
In the selection of suitable insulating and sealing materials it is important
to take care that these can meet the structural demands of wooden
constructions such as differential movement, air tightness and full weather
protection.
At the same time we are looking for many of these sealants
to
complement the thermal and
acoustic insulation, so that they
add to
rather
than detract from
the average U-Values of the
efficient walls,
fenestration
and
roofing systems being used.
We have developed joint sealing
products and systems which
permanently
and reliably
seal
expansion joints with large joint
tolerances, as well as
small.
They
can frequently exceed the
thermal
insulation values of the
adjoining
materials, as well as
reduce the
acoustic levels by
around 45 dB.
Some of which
are also suitable
for Passivhaus
standards.
A number of
specialist “Timber Frame” product manufactures in the UK
already specify
ISO-Chemie products for use in their systems.
These can be used in areas
such as:
• Panel to panel connections
• Wall to roof
• Wall to floor
• Around fenestration (external and internal)
• Interlocking joints
